Landowner Listing 30112
Immediate need - to find a qualified experienced farm manager.
Future need - to connect with the next generation of younger experienced farmers looking to farm long term.
The farm owners are seeking farmers willing to ensure the farmland is kept in erosion-free agricultural production and also willing to manage three (or four) other rental homes on the farm. The owners are willing to financially assist younger farmers who have both farming experience and property management experience. The owners are willing to incrementally sell the homes and farmland to a farmer who successfully manages the properties.
The farmland is relatively flat on the top of a hill seven miles south of Lancaster, Pa. The farm has ten mile views to the north over Lancaster and south toward the Susquehanna river. The farm is 200 acres with four homes.
A twelve-room 4,000 sq ft home slate-roof brick farmhouse built in 1850 is available, but currently occupied. A renter could renovate as desired before moving in.
Across the road, another smaller 1850’s slate-roofed brick home is available and is also occupied. Next to this home is a large Pennsylvania bank barn and other farm buildings described below.
The farm is part of a 500+ acre “green” area of contiguous farms. Farms in this green area have deed restrictions which prevent housing development.
The farm is currently classified as organic. The ideal candidate would also farm organically, starting out with 5-10 acres of vegetables or orchards, although all 200 acres are available. The farm is close to a large retirement community and Lancaster City which provides nearby markets for produce or visitors interested in rural farms, buildings, pick-your-own produce or community supported agriculture.
